Who this applies to
Every LEAP member, officer, volunteer, mentor, guest speaker, and adult advisor in every LEAP program: LEAP Career Chapters (Engineering & Tech, Business, Medicine, and Pre-Law), LEAP School Chapters, BRIDGE, Nourish N Narrate, Networking Events, Global Impact & Support, Interloop, and TutorNest — online and in person.
Adult supervision
- Every career chapter city team and every school chapter must have at least one adult advisor (a teacher, school staff member, or parent volunteer) before it runs in-person events, site visits, or workshops.
- Any activity connecting a student with an adult outside their chapter — a mentor, guest speaker, or professional — must be arranged through the chapter's adult advisor, never privately.
- Virtual calls with mentors or speakers should use LEAP-run channels, not a member's personal contact information.
Networking Events and guest speakers
- Guest speakers and panelists are confirmed by LEAP leaders and the chapter's adult advisor before an event.
- Events happen at schools, public places, or online through LEAP channels — never in private homes.
- Students should never be asked to meet a speaker or professional alone. Follow-up contact goes through official LEAP channels.
Workshops, drives, and donations
- Workshops (like making cards for nurses) are held at school or in a public place with an adult advisor. Deliveries to hospitals, clinics, or shelters are arranged and made with an adult.
- BRIDGE and Global Impact & Support drives collect items at schools or set drop-off points with adult supervision. Members should never go door to door alone or collect items from strangers' homes.
- Only accept items on our collection lists. Food must be sealed, shelf-stable, and unexpired. Electronics should be wiped of personal data before donating.
- All money donations go through HCB. Members should never collect cash or payments personally on LEAP's behalf.
Online safety and social media
- Never share your home address, financial information, or passwords with anyone through a LEAP program.
- LEAP's only official Instagram account is @project_leap.co. Be careful of accounts pretending to be LEAP.
- Use official LEAP channels (email, forms, the official Instagram) for LEAP business with adults — not personal social media.
- Report suspicious messages or requests to [email protected].
Programs that are coming soon
Interloop and TutorNest have not launched yet. Before TutorNest starts matching tutors and students, we'll add safety rules for tutoring sessions to this policy.
Reporting a concern
If you ever feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or see behavior that worries you — from a member, volunteer, mentor, speaker, or anyone connected to LEAP — tell us right away:
- Email [email protected] — reports are read by LEAP founders, not chapter students.
- Tell your chapter's adult advisor directly.
- If there is immediate danger, contact local emergency services first, then let us know.
We won't share who filed a report without their permission, except where required by law or needed to keep someone safe.
Volunteer and mentor screening
Adults volunteering as mentors, speakers, or event hosts should be approved by the chapter's adult advisor or school before working with members. Chapters should follow their school's volunteer and background-check process where one exists.
