Safety Policy
Last updated: August 2026 · Draft — pending review by a LEAP adult advisor before this is treated as final.
Who this applies to
This policy covers every LEAP member, chapter officer, volunteer, mentor, and adult advisor across all LEAP platforms and chapters (Engineering & Tech, Computer Science, Business, Medicine, Pre-Law, and any future chapter).
Adult supervision
- Every chapter must have at least one adult advisor (a teacher, school staff member, or parent volunteer) before it can run in-person events, site visits, or shadowing placements.
- Any activity connecting a minor with an adult outside their immediate chapter (a mentor, professional, or shadowing host) must be arranged and supervised through the chapter's adult advisor — never arranged privately between a student and an adult with no chapter oversight.
- Virtual mentor calls and speaker sessions should be scheduled through LEAP-facilitated channels, not a member's personal contact information.
Reporting a concern
If you ever feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or witness behavior that concerns you — from another member, a volunteer, a mentor, or anyone connected to LEAP — tell us immediately:
- Email project.leap.co@gmail.com — reports are read by LEAP founders/admins, not chapter students.
- Tell your chapter's adult advisor directly.
- If there is immediate danger, contact local emergency services first, then let us know.
We will not share who filed a report without their permission, except where required by law or necessary to keep someone safe.
Volunteer & mentor screening
Adults volunteering as mentors, speakers, or site-visit hosts should be vetted by the chapter's adult advisor or school before working directly with members. We recommend chapters follow their school's existing volunteer/background-check process where one exists.
Online safety
- Never share your home address, financial information, or passwords with anyone through a LEAP platform.
- Use official LEAP contact channels (email, chapter forms) rather than personal social media for LEAP business with adults.
- Report suspicious messages or requests to project.leap.co@gmail.com.
Questions
Email us at project.leap.co@gmail.com with any safety question — including ones you're not sure are "big enough" to report. We'd rather hear it.
